Nashville music scene fractured by culture wars, lineups changed after political disputes: ‘Doors are shut’ | Fox News

Posted on September 20, 2023 By webcatt_admin

Of course the ‘stars’ are well trained, shall we say groomed. The weaker brained one will let the grooming go deep. Others will have a clear understanding of what is being done to them and how they are being used. They will rebel. Good.

Romeo Entertainment Group President R.J. Romeo agreed that the industry is “not immune” from the concerns of the larger country.”There’s more divisiveness in the country now than ever before. That’s going to show up in opinions on music and everything,” he said. Most notable entertainers go through extensive media and public relations training. Often, their responses are controlled and measured, but the temptations of social media and heated discourse have led artists to show more of their true selves, or “less polished” selves, as Romero described it.

Denmark Street: London’s Street of Sound — Paradise Road

Posted on September 16, 2023 By webcatt_admin

Important times for music. It will come back. It will. It really will….

Depending on your age, Denmark Street is checking the walls for band members-wanted notices; drooling over the displays of guitars in the music-shop windows; bourbon-tinged nights at the 12 Bar; unearthing out-of-print volumes on Dylan at Helter Skelter; collecting autographs outside the offices of Acid Jazz Records; eavesdropping on journalists conducting interviews at the Gioconda. For musicians and songwriters, Denmark Street was nothing less than the gateway into the business. Britain’s own Tin Pan Alley, Denmark Street was at one time alive with the sound of hammered pianos, and sung melodies and choruses. Its songwriters knocked out tunes on the fly and rushed to the street to sell them to pay for the next round of drinks. The street’s importance was such that the Melody Maker and the New Musical Express were both started here. The street’s heyday was the 1960s however, when musicians would shop for guitars in between visiting managers and publishers or recording in one of the studios. The Rolling Stones and The Kinks came here, so did Donovan and Jimmy Page, Eric Clapton and Elton John, Jimi Hendrix and Jeff Beck. A popular dive was La Gioconda, a cafe/bar in which most members of the nascent R&B revolution visited at some point or other – David Bowie was said to practically live there. In later years, the street declined in importance – although when Malcolm McLaren was looking for a rehearsal space for the Sex Pistols he was delighted to find room in Denmark Street, installing his upstarts in the heart of the traditional music industry like Greek soldiers inside the Trojan Horse. The street continues its music associations, mainly in the form of its many instrument shops. How long it can retain that heritage in the face of the rapacious demands of the London property market combined with the way we play and consume music, remains to be seen. The story of Denmark Street, London’s street of sound, is the story of popular music in Britain, and the people who made, bought and sold it.

Liam Gallagher says Mick Jagger, Bono and Robert Plant wouldn’t be able to headline Knebworth solo like he has, but “Freddie Mercury might” | Louder

Posted on December 9, 2022 By webcatt_admin

I actually like Noel better. He is less arrogant and more talented.

Former Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher has pondered the likelihood of other rock legends being able to headline solo gigs at Knebworth like he did earlier this year

Bob Dylan has a secret signal he uses when he doesn’t want to be spoken to

Posted on December 8, 2022 By webcatt_admin

The move, although not as subtle as fiddling with a ring or moving around a royal handbag, would see Dylan simply chuck his hood over his head.

“When he wears the hood, you’re not supposed to talk to him,” Burnette says. “I didn’t know that until one day we were in line to get on a plane at the airport. I tapped him on the shoulder. The drummer said, ‘No, no. He don’t talk to anyone when he’s got the hood on.’ I was like, ‘OK. I’m glad you told me.’”

Despite being one of the most famed stars on the planet, as Burnette explains, he has ways of making himself disappear.

“He’s slippery,” the guitarist continues. “He can walk in an airport … they lost him one day. They couldn’t find him anywhere. I’m in this little gift shop and I turn around, and there he is. He goes, ‘Hi, Billy.’ I was like, ‘How did you get in here?’ He moves around. It’s a weird thing.”

According to Bob Dylan’s former touring guitarist, the folk legend has a certain move to let everyone know when he’d like to be left alone

Peter Grant interview: Life with Led Zeppelin and the death of John Bonham | Louder

Posted on November 21, 2022 By webcatt_admin

I never saw them though I do remember them coming through town. I thank my old buddy in the States (Tim Chatham) for having the wisdom to sit me down in his parent’s place and turn me on to one of the Greatest Rock bands of all time!

“I had a hell of a battle at the Bath festival. I’d researched where the stage would be and when the sun would set behind it, and Zeppelin had to go on dead on eight o’clock. It was running late, and other people wanted to go on, but I said: ‘No, Zeppelin are going on at eight o’clock, and that’s it.’“What happened was that they went on in daylight, so you get that ‘broad’ view, then as the sun set and it got darker we could bring the lights up so that it was the focal point.“I’m not sure that Robert’s idea worked, though – throwing the tambourines out to the audience. They were bouncing on Hells Angels’ heads! But they were alright, because I’d made mates with them.

Joe Lynn Turner says Kiss are “destroying their legacy” by using backing tracks | Louder

Posted on November 18, 2022 By webcatt_admin

Gene is a big story-teller. Of course they use backing tracks. They sucked when they started and it only got worse. The backing tracks at least make it possible for them to continue.

“I have a problem when you charge $100 to see a live show and the artist uses backing tracks,” Simmons told Australia’s News.com the same year. “It’s like the ingredients in food – if the first ingredient on the label is sugar, that’s at least honest.”It should be on every ticket – you’re paying $100, 30 to 50 percent of the show is [on] backing tracks, and they’ll sing sometimes, sometimes they’ll lip sync. At least be honest. It’s not about backing tracks; it’s about dishonesty.”

Jimmy Page recalls the recording of Led Zeppelin’s Presence | Louder

Posted on November 17, 2022 By webcatt_admin

I have followed Jimmy on Instagram. I really like all the new Robert Plant records. He is a great songwriter. Jimmy is a great guitar player. They were lucky they met each other but they also had the ability to take things further than common talent.

There was me and the engineer Keith Harwood, and whoever woke first would get the other up and we’d get straight into the studio and do the guitar overlays. It was the same with the mixing. Jagger was staying in the same hotel and I went up to see him to say thanks for letting us use the studio in their downtime. He said, “What have you done?” I said “I’ve done an album, do you want to hear some?” I put on Nobody’s Fault But Mine, which he sort of knew as a blues song and he was quite startled by it.Although doing an album in three weeks was an exception, I never worked slowly, nor did anyone else. We were all very fast and to the point. If we were recording something and it wasn’t happening we would stop that number and do something else, there was no point labouring it. That’s something I brought with me from the session days – you know when the spark’s there and you know when it’s gone and there’s no point proceeding, especially if you have other numbers to do.
