Six Stories: Album Review

About the Album

There’s a certain hour of the night — the one when the streetlights hum louder than the people — when Desmond Grundy’s music feels like it was written specifically for whoever’s still awake. Six Stories arrives in that hour. It doesn’t knock; it slips in quietly, like someone who knows the room well enough not to turn on the light.

Grundy has always written like a man who’s lived a few different lives and kept the receipts. A Canadian songwriter with a craftsman’s patience, he builds songs the way some people build boats: slow, deliberate, with an eye for the grain in the wood. His voice carries the weight of someone who’s watched the world from the edges — not detached, just observant, tuned to the small shifts in weather between people.

With Six Stories, he pares everything down to its essentials. Six tracks, each one a vignette. Not quite short films, not quite diary entries — more like postcards from places you’ve been but never named.
“Darkness Falls” opens like a streetlamp flickering awake.
“Interesting Times” leans into the strange calm of uncertainty.
“Smokes and Mirrors” walks the line between confession and illusion.
“Honey, The” feels like a memory you’re not sure you earned.
“Escaping the Enemy” closes the door behind you with a soft click.

The whole release runs under twenty minutes, but it lingers long after — the way a good story does when the narrator leaves you alone with your thoughts.

On LonelyOakRadio, Six Stories fits right into that late‑night current where the indie world gets quiet enough for the subtle writers to speak up. Grundy doesn’t shout. He doesn’t need to. He writes with the confidence of someone who trusts the listener to lean in.

And we do.
